Bought my Subaru here in April. The purchasing experience was fairly smooth with the exception of a $100 "deposit". About June the car began leaking oil pretty rapidly. Valve gasket and cover problems are a typical issue with Subarus and with the condition of rust in the vehicle it wasn't a big surprise. I can't say for sure if he knew what bad shape it was in when he sold it to me, but full disclosure: I had to spend an additional $2500 in repairs just a couple of months after my purchase.
Owner is a snake. He was selling a SUV on commission for a private party. We had agreed on a price and were going to buy it, but he told us that the "ABS" light had come on and took it to be checked out. Next thing we know it is for sale at another dealership for more. The Owner of American Auto Sales had bought it out from under us and resold it.
Bought a 4 wheel drive truck. 4WD did not work. After 100 miles check engine light came on with 7 codes. Several hundred dollars and several days later I repaired the 4WD and check engine codes. Went to replace burned out dash bulbs. Found the ABS had been taken out. Replaced ABS bulb and found out ABS did not work either. At 150 miles I was pulled over by a policeman. The policeman showed me in his dash cam that my rear tire was shaking quite violently and asked if the vehicle was safe. At 250 miles the starter went out so i left it running while I gathered some parts. There was a large pile of oil under the vehicle at the end of that day. This vehicle is long gone now but I just received a letter from the DMV stating that I owe them $50 because the transfer was not completed per their requirements. Cost me a couple thousand dollars between the time spent, repairs and the hit i took on the trade in when I had to get a vehicle that i felt comfortable allowing my employees to drive.
